LEADERSHIP

Pastors

We believe a local church is meant to be shepherded by a team of pastor-elders who love Jesus and give their lives for the good of His people. Pastors are "under-shepherds" entrusted with protecting, feeding and caring for the church. We lead in plurality, striving to honor one another, make space for each others gifts, and humbly submit to Jesus as the church's one true "Chief Shepherd".

Ben Sansburn

Preaching & Strategic Vision

Ben began serving at Summit in 2013 after living nine years as a missionary in China with his wife Eliana. He is a dad to four beautiful girls - Ava, Miren, Charis and Eden.

Ben grew up in Canada. He played college basketball and earned a Bachelor of Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C. He also has a Master of Arts from Western Seminary in Portland, OR. He loves roasting and drinking great coffee, reading good books, and is a sports junkie.

Ryan Beardsley

Preaching & Theological Vision

Ryan has served at Summit as a pastor since 2017, but his roots go deep in the greater Pierce County area. Born and raised in Puyallup, he met his wife, Kelly, of nearly thirteen years at Rogers High School. Ryan and Kelly are proud parents of their daughter, Lucy and son, Dane.

Ryan has a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Northwestern University and a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. Ryan loves the Pacific Northwest, spending time with his family and friends, reading good books, watching basketball (of the NBA variety), getting outside with his yellow lab, Brody, and most recently, after many years and many attempts, coffee.

Josh Breffle

Preaching & Church Planting Vision

Josh and his wife Emily, along with their two boys Olson and Haddon, joined Summit in 2018. Josh was a pastor at another healthy church and was graciously commissioned and sent to Summit to pursue church planting. Josh was a college wrestler and God has used his passion for sport as a vehicle for discipleship and gospel proclamation. He currently works full-time with Reality Sports, a local sports ministry.

Josh is a grad of Western State University in Colorado, and holds a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He also served as an Army Ranger from 2005-2011. He loves reading good books, drinking good coffee, and rooting for all of Denver's sports teams.

Craig Black

Craig has been serving the body at Summit Christian as an elder for nearly twenty years. Since 2004 Craig has been the Executive Director of Lifechange Christian Counseling, a biblical counseling ministry that serves families and individuals across the south Puget Sound with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Craig has been happily married to Lyn for 38 years, has three wonderful grown children: Haley, Spencer, and Kelly. Craig loves Jesus and His bride, family and friends, people of every tribe, nation and tongue, the beach, French Press coffee, golf, and being adopted into the 12th Man Nation.

Michael Sandberg

Michael has served as one of Summit's elders for over 20 years. He has been married to his wife Kim for more than 40 years. They have four adult daughters and eight (soon to be nine) grandchildren. Kim is the director of CareNet Puyallup. Michael also serves as Director of Pastoral Development for Agape Projects International where he works to train pastors and church leaders in Kenya, and is director of church relations with CareNet of Puget Sound. Michael loves family, good books, great coffee, teaching and preaching. He is also a proud member of the 12th man and still holds out hope for the Mariners.

Deacons

Deacons are servants entrusted to care for practical needs in the life of the church.  Deacons serve in all kinds of "behind-the-scenes" ways that allow ministry in the church to flourish and grow.
